MoForever Winter 2019 | 14 Anthony (“Tony”) Carbone joined the firm as co-chair of both the Global Tax Department and the Federal Tax Group . Tony’s practice focuses on tax-planning strategies and the tax consequences of a wide range of business and investment transactions in the U.S. and internationally. He advises on all forms of leveraged buyouts, mergers and acquisitions, reorganizations, restructurings, and other types of investment transactions. Tony regularly represents private equity funds, deal sponsors, investment banks, commercial banks, and hedge funds, as well as venture capital, real estate, and other funds; acquiring and target companies; and management groups. (J.D.1981, Syracuse University) (LL.M.1985, New York University School of Law) Jay Blaivas joined the firm as a partner in the Federal Tax Group , providing key support to the firm’s REIT, Fund Formation, Real Estate , and Private Equity practices. Jay has over 20 years of experience in real estate tax matters. His technical and practical experience covers all aspects of the formation, operation, and continuing compliance of public, private, and nontraded mortgage and equity REITs and UPREITs, and the structuring and operations of real estate equity and debt funds, including their investments, transactions, and financings, as well as the tax considerations applicable to their U.S., non-U.S., tax-exempt, and foreign sovereign investors. (J.D. 1995, Columbia Law School) John T. Owen joined the firm as a partner in in the Corporate Finance | Capital Markets Group . John brings more than 17 years of experience representing issuers and underwriters in complex capital markets transactions, further expanding the firm’s capital markets capabilities both in New York and globally. He is an accomplished capital markets partner with a wide range of experience, including offerings of equity and equity-linked securities, as well as investment-grade and high-yield debt securities. John has worked extensively on cross-border deals, having completed transactions involving issuers and offerings in a number of jurisdictions around the world, particularly in Asia, including Hong Kong and Singapore.
