MoForever Alumni News - Summer 2020

7 | MoForever Summer 2020 I was handling a lot of transactions. Now, I’m impacting real deals at a global organization. Was working in-house always a goal for you? My first goal was to be a partner in the law firm but as I progressed throughout my career, I found myself drawn to other potential goals. I also wanted to focus on both career and raising a family. At MoFo, I worked closely with Marcia Ellis, a partner in the Hong Kong Corporate Group. I discussed my decision to go in-house with her. She advised that working in-house is genuinely exciting and fulfilling. As a former GC herself, Marcia gave me all of the support and advice I needed to make the leap. It was difficult at the time, but looking back, I made a good decision that has enabled me to derive much happiness and satisfaction from my career and family. How else did Marcia and your time at MoFo impact your career? Marcia taught me everything she knew about handling PE deals, without reservation. She shared not only legal knowledge, but also her hard-won insight into the market. Marcia took me to client meetings, even when I wasn’t that senior. That direct contact with clients was extremely helpful. Marcia also let me handle negotiation sessions when she couldn’t attend. “LAW FIRM PARTNERS EVERYWHERE SHOULD GIVE ASSOCIATES OPPORTUNITIES TO WORK ON COMPLEX DEALS, AS I WAS GIVEN AT MOFO. THIS EXPERIENCE ALLOWED ME TO BUILD CONFIDENCE FOR THE REAL WORLD.”
