ALUMNI ACCOMPLISHMENTS Michael Carlson was promoted from assistant general counsel and director, litigation to senior director and associate general counsel, ethics and compliance – investigations for VMware. Michael joined MoFo in 1979 and was a partner in the San Francisco and Palo Alto Litigation Groups until 2007. During that time Michael also served as managing partner of the Palo Alto office from 1995 to 1999. Patrick Machado has been appointed to the board of directors for Turning Point Therapeutics, Inc. Patrick currently serves as a director for several biotechnology companies, including Adverum, Chimerix and Scynexis, and previously was a co-founder, chief business officer, and chief financial officer of Medivation, Inc. At MoFo, Patrick was an associate in the San Francisco Business Group from 1988 to 1996. Jelena McWilliams was sworn in as chairman of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation. Previously, Jelena was executive vice president, chief legal officer, and corporate secretary for Fifth Third Bank. At MoFo, Jelena was an associate in the Palo Alto Corporate Group from 2002 to 2005. Scott A. Morgan has been a member of the Splunk Inc. legal team since 2012 and recently was promoted from general counsel and secretary to senior vice president, chief legal officer, and secretary. Splunk helps organizations ask questions, get answers, take actions, and achieve business outcomes from their data. At MoFo, Scott was an associate in the San Francisco Corporate Group from 2000 to 2004. Steven M. Sandberg was appointed as assistant to the president and general counsel for Brigham Young University (BYU). Previously, Steve was deputy general counsel at BYU. At MoFo, Steve was an associate in the Orange County Corporate Group from 2004 to 2006. Patricia Svilik , senior product and commercial counsel for eBay, Inc., was honored for her pro bono work as a 2019 Bay Area Corporate Counsel Awards winner. Hosted by the Silicon Valley Business Journal and the San Francisco Business Times , the awards honor the Bay Area’s outstanding in-house counsel. At MoFo, Patricia was an associate in the San Francisco Litigation Group from 2008 to 2015. David G. Thatcher was promoted from vice president – general counsel to senior vice president – general counsel for UDR, Inc.
