MoForever Alumni News - Summer 2020
MoForever Summer 2020 | 8 I felt tremendous trust from my colleagues when I worked at MoFo, which boosted my confidence. I still catch up with Marcia frequently and talk about all sorts of issues. She’s a good mentor and friend. The bottom line is, training gives you the professional knowledge to work in-house, and experience helps you work out important deals. Law firm partners everywhere should give associates opportunities to work on complex deals, as I was given at MoFo. I was assigned challenging tasks and learned to solve complicated issues. I was also given the opportunity to communicate and interact directly with clients, as opposed to a sole focus on non- client-facing tasks such as document creation. This experience allowed me to build confidence for the real world. Have you kept in touch with other MoFo alumni? I find a lot of alumni in Hong Kong and China. It’s important to stay in touch because we share the same early legal training experiences. We share common views towards certain things. Staying connected is also central to professional development. If you are a capable partner in a law firm, in-house alumni will refer work to you. When you’re in-house, you know how to find a good lawyer through your alumni network. And, of course, there are my personal friendships, which are invaluable.
