MoForever Alumni News - Summer 2019

MoForever Summer 2019 | 8 Brandon Parris, Eric McCrath, and Jackie Liu become so successful. I also greatly enjoyed participating in the firm’s success over 34 years. When I joined MoFo in 1984, it was by no means clear that the firm would succeed in becoming one of the leading global law firms it is today. At the time, the firm was a predominantly California law firm, based in San Francisco, with fewer than 200 lawyers. So much has changed in the legal profession and the global economy over that time, and MoFo has done a great job of responding to those changes. Finally, being able to end my tenure at MoFo with the signing of the Sprint/T-Mobile merger, a landmark M&A transaction, was a nice culmination of my career arc. What drove you after 34 years to take on this new role? I ask myself that question all the time. I had an enjoyable, great career and felt I had accomplished most of what I could accomplish at MoFo. When SoftBank approached me and asked if I was ready to take on another role, I realized I was not ready to retire. My kids would tell you I needed to test the waters outside of MoFo and see what it was like. It has been a greater challenge than I realized. But, had I not accepted this new position, I probably would have always wondered what it would have been like.
