MoForever Alumni News - Summer 2019

7 | MoForever Summer 2019 protect the company’s trademark rights. At the time, unauthorized organizations using the Greenpeace name had sprung up across the U.S. They were raising money with no accountability or affiliation to the global Greenpeace organization headquartered in London. We rationalized the structure to bring the companies in as affiliates (or not) and ensure the Greenpeace brand remained strong. I was also fortunate to have opportunities to work with immigrants seeking asylum, The Nature Conservancy on marine conservation, and, most recently, Common Sense Media, a not-for-profit we helped create dedicated to responsible media for children, in forming a for-profit hybrid organization to help leverage their brand and provide sustainable financing over time. Currently, we are at the aspirational phase for pro bono at SoftBank. Attorneys at MoFo are helping us create opportunities for more attorneys at SoftBank to work on pro bono projects, and I hope we will be able to devote more time to those. What do you appreciate most from your 34 years at MoFo? It really is about the people, at the end of the day. For example, Marshall Small sitting down with the SEC rules and regulations and explaining them to me as a junior associate while we were working on an IPO for a healthcare client. Seeing partners like Ken Siegel, Suz Mac Cormac, “WHEN SOFTBANK APPROACHED ME AND ASKED IF I WAS READY TO TAKE ON ANOTHER ROLE, I REALIZED I WAS NOT READY TO RETIRE.”
