M&A 2019 Annual Review
VMWARE Morrison & Foerster represented enterprise software company VMware in its $2.3 billion acquisition of cybersecurity company Carbon Black. The combination of Carbon Black’s cloud-native endpoint security platform with VMware’s security offerings will provide comprehensive protection against sophisticated cyberattacks and accelerate responses through advanced threat detection and in-depth application behavior insight supported by big data, behavioral analytics and AI. The deal was VMware’s first acquisition of another public company. We also advised VMware on several other acquisitions this year, including the acquisitions of AetherPal, Inc., a market leader in Mobile Support; Avi Networks, a developer of an application delivery platform designed to deliver multi-cloud application services; BitRock, Inc. (doing business as Bitnami), a leader in application packaging solutions; and Uhana, a startup that is leveraging AI for mobile network optimization and slicing. 27 MORRISON & FOERSTER 2019 M&A ANNUAL REVIEW
