Latin America 2020 Year in Review | Morrison & Foerster

Welcome to our Latin America Year in Review, a report of our team’s major engagements, and highlights the growth and development of our group during 2020. Despite the instability caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, Morrison & Foerster’s Latin America team pivoted quickly and seized new opportunities to serve our clients as they adapted to rapid changes in the marketplace. The team has been advising clients such as SoftBank, Visa, and Petlove on market-shaping matters, representing the largest bondholder group in the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico’s pending Title III case, and counseling official committees in major aviation-related bankruptcy cases. We also took important steps to support the firm’s inclusion and pro bono efforts, enhancing partnerships with organizations such as the Women’s Interest Group of the International Bar Association, the LGBTI Committee of the International Bar Association, the Council of the Americas, Endeavor Miami, and the Hispanic National Bar Association, in addition to the firm’s internal affinity groups. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic and the ripple of social and economic unrest felt throughout the world, MoFo’s LatAm lawyers took on a number of pro bono matters. Corporate associate Axel Miranda has been working with MoFo’s California Small Enterprise Task Force (CASE Force), which aims to provide vital information to small businesses in California coping with the devastating impact of COVID-19, preparing weekly Spanish language resources guides. Partner Jay Gavigan assisted leading scientists in forming a new nonprofit aimed at developing “on the shelf” drugs to target the stable part of coronaviruses. Additionally, we advised on the creation and establishment of the SoftBank Opportunity Fund, focusing on early-stage and impact investing in minority-owned businesses. We couldn’t be prouder of the Latin America team’s resilience during this uncertain time, and we are thankful for your continued faith in us to handle your most important matters. We look forward to a productive 2021. Morrison & Foerster | 4 RANDY BULLARD Co-Chair, Latin America Desk RUTI SMITHLINE Co-Chair, Latin America Desk
