The Morrison & Foerster Foundation 2020 Report

THE MORRISON & FOERSTER FOUNDATION SPECIAL PROJECT GRANTS Over the past 20 years, the Foundation’s board of directors set aside a portion of its annual budget in order to fund a series of special grants in amounts much larger than the Foundation could otherwise contribute. Each of these four sets of large grants began with a firmwide call for nominations. The responses were tremendous, with 80–100 nominations submitted for each set of awards by partners, associates, counsel, and staff members. All of the chosen projects focused on addressing some of the critical unmet needs of underserved children and youth in our communities. Our total giving through this Special Project Grants Program now stands at $5.1 million. We completed the distribution of our most recent set of multi-year special project grants – in honor of the Foundation’s 30 th anniversary – in 2018. Representing the largest set of grants in the Foundation’s history, our 30 th Anniversary Grants were part of $1.6 million in special awards and followed multi-year special project grants announced in 2003, 2006, and 2012. In 2019 and 2020, we continued the tradition of setting aside funds for a new set of special project grants, to be announced at a future date. A list of all our special large grants made through this program follows. Not included are some smaller special awards, such as the 10 grants of $25,000 each made as part of our 25 th Anniversary Grants Program. 2020 REPORT – CHILDREN + YOUTH | 04 30 TH ANNIVERSARY SPECIAL LARGE GRANTS $240,000 GlobalGiving Foundation for Lighthouse: Center for Human Trafficking Victims Anti-Human Trafficking Resource Hubs Program Washington, D.C. and Tokyo, Japan $225,000 Voices for Children San Diego, California $225,000 You Gotta Believe This Is For Real Program Brooklyn, New York $225,000 YWCA Golden Gate Silicon Valley Arise Program San Jose, California $215,000 Constitutional Rights Foundation Cops & Kids Program Los Angeles, California $215,000 Washington Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights and Urban Affairs Parent Empowerment Program Washington, D.C.
