We also advised MUFG Bank on a strategic alliance agreement with Grab in connection with the investment, outlining MUFG Bank’s and Grab’s efforts to collaborate on offering existing and future financial products and services to customers throughout Southeast Asia and Japan, seeking to capitalize on the parties’ respective strengths in financial products and Grab’s advanced technologies and data management expertise. The alliance also provides MUFG with the opportunity to deepen synergies in its Southeast Asia network and take advantage of business opportunities in the region. MUFG’s investment comes on the heels of Grab’s rapid growth in 2019, when the company established itself as the leading ride-hailing, food delivery, and digital payments provider in Southeast Asia, and expanded Grab Financial Group to include financial services products such as consumer insurance and lending services.
